  • Dave‘s fantasy sitcom Zapped has finished after three series
  • A spokesperson for UKTV confirmed: “We have no current plans for a fourth series”

Channel Dave has confirmed that fantasy-set sitcom Zapped has finished after three series.

The comedy, which launched in 2016, starred James Buckley, Paul Kaye, Sharon Rooney, Kenneth Collard and Louis Emerick.

Created by Dan Gaster, Will Ing and Paul Powell, the storylines followed as Brian Weaver (Buckley) tried to return home after having been transported to a parallel world full of strange characters.

Series 3 ended in November with the suggestion the story could continue, but it would now appear the fate of Brian will remain unknown.

UKTV said in a statement: “Zapped has been integral to helping Dave grow its UKTV Original series but all good things must come to an end and we have no current plans for a fourth series.”

Speaking to British Comedy Guide, the writers say: “We’ve had so many lovely messages since the announcement, it’s been great to hear from all the Muntyites out there.

“We’re gutted that we won’t get to make more Zapped, but maybe the show will become a massive cult sleeper hit, and in ten years’ time could be revived by, say, the Dave channel? We’ve had so much fun making it, we’re just so sorry that we’ve had to put all our ideas for Series 4 in a big bin and set fire to them.

“By the way, if anyone reading this runs a TV channel that currently has a half-hour space in the schedule for a fantasy sitcom, do contact us at your earliest convenience. Till then, many thanks to all the brilliant people who supported us, from UKTV, Baby Cow and Black Dog Television through to our incredible cast and crew.

“Pears be with you,

“Dan, Will and Paul.”

Inbetweeners alumnus Buckley first revealed the show had ended during a YouTube live stream. A spokesperson for Dave confirmed to TV Wise: “We have made three brilliant series of Zapped and have loved every minute of Brian’s adventures in Munty, it’s been an absolute joy working with James Buckley, Sharon Rooney, Paul Kaye, Ken Collard and Louis Emerick as well as the brilliant team at Baby Cow Productions and Black Dog Television.”
