Gold announces Dial M For Middlesbrough star cast

Casting for Dial M For Middlesbrough has been announced.

The upcoming one-of murder mystery comedy for Gold follows the huge success of 2017‘s Murder On The Blackpool Express and its 2018 sequel, Death On The Tyne.

For broadcast in December, the programme reunites coach driver team Terry (Johnny Vegas) and Gemma (Sian Gibson), caught up in a fresh adventure.

Additions to this year’s cast include Ambreen Razia; One Foot In The Grave‘s Annette Crosbie and her real-life daughter Selina Griffiths (Benidorm); actor and pop star Jason Donovan; Gavin & Stacey‘s Joanna Page; and Mike Wozniak (Man Down).

Producers say: “Gemma and Terry are thrown into jeopardy when their coach breaks down in the middle of a fierce thunderstorm whilst they’re on their way to collect Mildred (Sheila Reid) and Hilda (Georgie Glen) and take them to a funeral in Middlesbrough.”

They explain: “Our intrepid duo are forced to seek refuge in Shady Creek Caravan Park, a mysterious place that seems to strike a particular terror in an unusually jumpy Gemma. Here we meet an eclectic mix of characters including site owners Evie (Sally Lindsay) and Jed (Phil Davis), extraordinarily clumsy chef Susan (Joanna Page), Events Manager and ’90s throwback Darren (Jason Donovan), drop dead gorgeous American tourist Chad (John Macmillan), and long-term park resident Edna (Annette Crosbie).

“More recently arrived on the scene are holiday prize-winners (if you can call them that) Phil (Jason Forbes), who struggles to get a word in while his other half Penny (Ambreen Razia) struggles to stop words coming out, and excitable birdwatchers Neil (Mike Wozniak) and Mary (Selina Griffiths), all of whom are causing quite a stir.

“Will any of them survive the horrors of the sinister and dilapidated Shady Creek?”

Inspired by the whodunnits of celebrated author Agatha Christie, all three programmes have been written by comedian Jason Cook, who also created BBC Two sitcom Hebburn.

The initial instalment, Murder On The Blackpool Express, is Gold‘s most-watched programme ever, having attracted a consolidated audience of 1.8 million viewers during its first week alone.

Dial M For Middlesbrough will be broadcast on an as-yet-unconfirmed December date.
