Gone Fishing – a gentle series which observed as the two comedy stars took a fishing trip together – premiered on BBC Two in June and July 2018. The duo, who were both recovering from heart operations, discussed various topics as they undertook various types of angling.
Whitehouse is an experienced fisherman whilst Mortimer is a complete novice. The six episodes observed as the pair discussed various topics “alongside the ever-present shadows of showbiz and mortality”.
An instant hit with viewers, a second series of the TV show is now in development.
The new book, which will have the same title as the TV show, is due to be published on the 30th May 2019 – possibly to tie in with the broadcast of Series 2.
Mortimer confirmed on social media: “Me and Paul are writing a book about fishing, friendship and fannying about on riverbanks. It’s coming out in May.”
The back cover of the book explains: “This wonderful book by two lifelong friends is a love letter to the joys of angling, the thrill of the catch and the virtue of having a right daft laff with your mates. On the fish, the equipment, the food, and the locations, Gone Fishing is the perfect book for fans of Bob Mortimer, Paul Whitehouse and for anyone who wants to read a brilliantly written and endlessly funny joint memoir on life, friendship and joys of fishing.”
Mortimer & Whitehouse – Gone Fishing is available to pre-order now in both hardback and eBook formats.
